Cable Modem Speed Testing
Uncategorized June 19th, 2007Thousands of people around the United States and the world are taking advantage of the ability to have broadband internet connections, which are sometimes also called cable modems. This is done by the local cable company offering to give you high speed access through your cable service that you already subscribe to. Fortunately, many television owners throughout the country already subscribe to cable packages, which makes subscribing to cable modems a whole lot easier! Some have said that using a cable modem subscription for your internet is actually one hundred times faster than the dial-up connections that were popular in the early 1990s. Even though cable companies have made it easier for their subscribers to get a hold of internet services using the cable modem, though, that doesn’t mean that regular computer and internet maintenance should be performed. In fact, checking the speed of the cable modem is one of the first things that one should do if they recognize that their internet is failing for some reason or another or simply not running as fast as it was previously.
There are many ways in which you can check your cable modem speed. The absolute first thing that you should do if you suspect a problem with the internet’s speed is to talk with your cable internet provider. The cable company should be able to give you advice and tips about not only how to increase your cable modem speed but they will also do some testing from their end to see if their are any problems within the larger cable service. The tests that they do will send a test signal from their master cable modem to your cable modem that you have hooked up to your computer to see if there are problems. After they perform this small test chances are that your cable modem speed will be back to normal.
Another way you can check the speed of your cable modem speed is to actually ask the cable company what the average cable internet subscriber’s speed is and compare that to yours. If there is no problem from the cable company’s end, chances are that you will have to spend a day or so tweaking your computer so that your internet connection speed will come back to normal. This could include running virus scan programs and even getting rid of some of the programs you don’t need anymore. You could even check the speed of your cable modem online. But all of this should be done to keep your cable modem’s speed to its maximum performance that you have always known and loved!
