Processor Speed Testing
Uncategorized June 19th, 2007Many computer beginners often are confused by the terms that are sometimes thrown around by computer experts. One of these terms is the CPU speed of the computer. What this means is how fast the computer will act when having multiple instructions. For example, if an internet browser is running along with several word processing applications and games, the processor speed is the amount of time it takes for the whole computer to process all of those things at one time. For many of the latest computer models and some of the more expensive ones, the CPU or processing speed could be well above 2 or 3 Gigahertz. If you’re wondering just how fast that is, 2 Gigahertz equals 1,000 Megahertz and early computers from the early 1990s included a processing speed of only a couple hundred or so Megahertz.
Mostly everything that we do on our computers is somehow related to the processing speed of the computer. Games that can be purchased from electronic stores, software that can be purchased and downloaded from on the internet, and all of the applications that are already included on the computer system will all take up some of the computer’s processing speed. Fortunately, many of the computers in today’s era come with CPU speeds of satisfactory rates that will run everything needed on the computer at a comfortable level for the user.
Although sometimes the processing speed of the computer can become slow and unwanted, there are several things that you can do to check the CPU speed of your system. The first thing that you’ll want to do is check in your Control Panel under the general specifications of the computer; this will show you what the speed of the computer is supposed to be. Next, you’ll want to check the actual CPU speed that the processor is currently performing at. For example, on Windows XP systems this can be found in the Accessories list in the System Information tool under the System Tools list. You’ll be able to find out the processing speed of the computer; if it’s running slow then there are several things you can do. But there are also several other processing speed testing websites found online that will also help you check your CPU speed if you’re having trouble. Nevertheless, checking the speed of your computer is crucial to not only your computer’s performance, but also for daily computer maintenance.
